1969 was a pretty historic year for our nation. Huntsville had a lot to do with one of the main events. The first successful manned lunar landing (and return) was celebrated big time in downtown Huntsville, with city officials toting Wernher von Braun, (very first director of NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center) on their shoulders during a huge celebration following the completion of Apollo 11. NBD Huntsville...just sending folks to the universe and all.
